If you have ever struggled to figure out what activities might be motivating for your child, then you are not alone! When introducing language and communication to your child, it is important to do so during fun and motivating activities. Through play, children learn to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength (Ginsburg, 2007). These are the activities that make your child smile, laugh, or pay attention. They may be the ones your child wants to have repeated over and over.
Make sure to spend time identifying motivating activities. Communication happens best during these times. If you need help, make sure to review the Getting Started and Keep Growing sections of Pathways. You will find loads of examples with accompanying videos and scripts to help guide you.
