Designed for the Tobii Dynavox I-Series (I-13/I-16) and Indi, Communicator 5 works on Windows computers running Windows 7 or newer. 

Up and running in minutes

Get started in no time, with the built-in setup guide. Start by selecting one of the predefined user levels, a voice, and a desired input method. Communicator will then create a home page that is pre-populated with industry best practice techniques, clinical, robust, and research-based content, as well as relevant pagesets.

For personalization and growth, you can remove or edit existing pagesets to perfectly match your skills and desires. You can also change the background color of the homepage to better suit your personality as well as easily modify your settings.

Supports all input methods

Use Communicator 5 regardless of your preferred input method. The software supports direct input via touch screen, which has been significantly improved with Windows 8/10, as well as mouse click, mouse dwell, joystick, or head mouse. You can also use gaze interaction together with the Tobii Dynavox I-Series and I-Series+.

If you require feedback before making a selection, use auditory prompts, and if your personal needs change over the day, simply switch between input methods.  For example, use touch input in the morning and gaze interaction in the afternoon.

Ideal for single and multiple users

With support for an unlimited number of user profiles on the same device, Communicator 5 is ideal for schools, assessment centers, and care facilities where several users might share the same system. It also works well for single users who might want to have different settings depending on the time of day.

Speak with your recorded messages

With Communicator 5.4 you can now use all kinds of recorded messages from Tobii Dynavox Message Banking, as well as external libraries, to be spoken out if the content corresponds to the recorded message. This allows you to communicate with your own voice - even if you have lost the ability to speak. When the option “Use Recorded Messages” is enabled, the message windows content is spoken with your recorded words.

Not only does Communicator 5 give you access to the functionality within the software itself, but it also gives you control over the Windows environment. This means that you can control Windows applications that are not part of Communicator via the Communicator Windows keyboard and Tobii Dynavox Gaze Interaction Software.

Windows keyboard

For quick and easy navigation, send any text or keystroke combinations to an open Windows application using the universal on-screen keyboard.

Communicator 5 on-screen Windows keyboards are designed to work side by side with Gaze Selection and Mouse Emulation, with the same keyboard layout in Communicator, providing unparalleled access to Windows applications.

Mouse emulation and gaze selection

Replace the traditional mouse cursor with your gaze through a supported eye tracker, like the one found in Tobii Dynavox I-13 and I-16. Our award winning Gaze Selection software makes it possible to control your desktop, or any other application, through an intuitive two-step process that reduces the risk of unwanted clicks. This gives you more relaxed computer access and the ability to hit smaller targets.

Mouse emulation for switch users

Set up your Switch-scan solutions in a variety of ways using one or two switches. As a switch user, the mouse emulation features enable you to hit any clickable element and to control the standard Windows environment, moving beyond communication pages to a new level of functionality.

Advantages for literate users

For literate users, a built-in dictionary, frequency-based word prediction, as well as access to the Windows desktop and applications helps improve accuracy. By using “My Phrases”, you can also store and quickly access commonly used expressions and phrases, based on categories such as “at work”, and “at the movies”.

Convenient text communication and high quality voices

Click on the message window or speech button to generate a clear voice - specific to your language, age and gender. Communicator 5 comes with high quality Acapela voices and even lets you speak as you type.

Download and organize your pagesets

You are able to move old Communicator 4 pagesets over to Communicator 5 or get inspired by our community PageSet Central. There you can download pagesets from other users, parents, special education teachers and SLPs for free. Once you have imported your pagesets, you can select, copy and delete multiple pages within the Edit Page Set Mode.

Type more efficiently

In Communicator 5 there is a consistent keyboard layout regardless of which page set you are in. Using the most comfortable keyboard layout will help you type more efficiently. 

Additional features:

• Generate an entire keyboard using smart buttons to let you easily change keyboard language or shift between QWERTY, ABC or scan-optimized layouts.
• Spontaneously reply to a question or conversation while writing a longer text with the  quick talk feature. After the quick reply, you can return to your text document and continue writing without losing your place.
• Get auditory feedback from the Communicator 5 keyboards when a key is clicked
• Customize the dwell time, letting you type faster or slower, should you want to.

Dramatically increase typing speeds

 Increase your typing speed with the brand new “dwell-free typing” function. Simply let your gaze sweep over the letters that form the words you want to write. With great accuracy, Communicator 5 knows what you want to write.

Communication for symbol users

For those unable to read or write, Tobii Dynavox Communicator 5 lets you use symbols or pictures to support your communication. Symbol pages from the Sono Suite are included and are a great way to begin using the software. With the built-in grammar functions, even symbol users can conjugate verbs and adjectives, thereby aiding language learning.

Included with Communicator 5 are over 15,000 communication SymbolStix symbols that enable people of all ages to communicate clearly. Communicator 5 also supports other standard-format communication symbol and picture libraries, such as Picture Communication Symbols (PCS). You can also import your own photos and pictures from your computer or use the built in camera to take snapshots.

Customize and edit your buttons freely

The quick menu lets you edit buttons quickly and easily. You can hide/unhide certain buttons, providing a great learning pathway for emerging communicators. Additionally, you are able to adjust the button font size across the entire pageset, making the text appear to be gradually more important.

Tobii Dynavox Communicator helps you stay social in many different ways. Keep in contact with family, friends and co-workers by using all forms of electronic communication at your own discretion. You can also use Communicator to control IR-enabled devices such as your TV or to open and close doors.

More than face-to-face communication

Go beyond face-to-face communication with access to e-mail and messaging for enhanced independence and quality of life.

Being able to engage in private and personal conversations without the assistance of a caregiver is of huge importance to many — something that has been made much easier with Communicator 5.

Stay social

Communicate with colleagues, friends and family by using ready-made pages and functions for online chat, e-mail and telephone text messages (SMS). You can even make a phone call using the synthetic voice.

Want to keep friends and family in the loop? Update your social media status with the built-in Facebook page set. It allows you to read and make posts to your Facebook newsfeed from within Communicator 5.

Send and receive text messages and MMS

Together with the Android App Tobii Dynavox Beam you now have the possibility to send and receive text messages through Communicator. Simply connect your phone via the app with Communicator and start sending messages. It is even possible to now receive MMS content (pictures) in Communicator 5.4. You can display them, save and delete (but it is not possible yet to send out MMS from Communicator).
I-Series users have a built-in solution and can’t use Tobii Dynavox Beam.

Control devices in your environment

Program and control IR-enabled devices in your environment, such as your TV, DVD player and toys. Communicator 5 lets you adjust bed positions, open doors, turn lights on or off and much more.

The Tobii Dynavox I-Series comes with built in GEWA support and are optimized to work with Communicator 5.
